In order to smith an item (with the exception of Tree Saws, Fishing Poles, Fishing Nets and Carving Tools), you must first mine the metal. So, find a mine. Once inside, equip your pickaxe in the same slot shown below.

Next, look for rocks in the floor, like these , and click them. Your Battle Text box (guide to the screen) should say something resembling what is shown below.

When the blue bar fills up, you will be told whether you've successfully mined or not.

As your mining chance increases, as do your chances of mining more than one bar per click. When your mining level reaches 15, you will be able to mine 2 bars per click, at level 25, 3 bars, and so on. So, once you've mined a bit of Iron, you can head back to an anvil, and begin smithing.

So, equip your hammer in the slot shown below.

After finding an anvil , hold your cursor over it, and click. It should bring up the menu shown below.

The first thing to do, is select what item you'd like to smith (red circle), then which metal it should be made of (orange circle). Note: You need equal amounts of Iron and Silver to make a Silver item. Same with other metals. Also, to smith Silver Armor you must learn a Silver Armor Tome. Same with other metals and smithing skills. At the bottom of the menu (blue circle) it shows how many bars you'll need to smith the items, and your chance of making it. Then, click the create button. Your Battle Text box should say something resembling what is shown below.

When the blue bar fills up, you will be told whether you've successfully smithed or not,
and what quality the item smithed is.
